Game Notes - Session 19

Session XIX Notes:

Gameplay begins as the party gets ready to fight Elliott and his forces. However, cooler heads prevail, and the decision is made to get out of there. When the party heads to the top of the canyon, they run into Floyd, who had been on his way to the Shield Splitter Inn to use the portal to get to Arimathea, but decides to stay with the party. The group goes back to the cave, and finds it cleaned out of everything, even the 60 head hydra skeleton. Virgil is upset by this.

After Oak departs the group (almost coming to blows with Virgil over who gets Oak’s mule), the party heads to Drea, and the Tower of the Broken Moon. They head to the top of the tower and find the Eye of Toth. The group then heads to Drea, with Guy stopping off at Garam’s to give him the eye for research. After a brief sojourn at Havern’s, the party goes to the Inn of the Jolly Badger, where Floyd is surprised to discover a gnomish bard named Mitchell singing one of his songs, and taking credit for it. Floyd challenges him to a fight, only to discover that he is woefully outmatched. Mitchell, after defeating Floyd, quotes a code called “Duelo” and claims that he is entitled to one item of his choice off of Floyd’s person. The party informs him this will not happen, and they fight him off. Mitchell disappears, threatening to keep Floyd forever barred from becoming a bard.

The party visits Havern again, where they get their weapons, and Garam, where they discuss some of their findings, particularly the Harvesters’ Scythe. Unbeknownst to them, Sally gets the Eye of Toth and insterts it into her socket, where she finds she is able to heal herself. She offers to heal Liam’s hand, and does so, but the regeneration is completely black, as is the eye that Sally creates for herself. Garam determines that Sally has not become evil, and assures the party he will do the right thing if it comes to it. Sally tells the party the eye called to her, and that the eye recommends she avoid four people: The Horned King, the Harvester, a man in a black cloak, and a man with red skin who hangs out around Linus / Zarin (possibly in his psyche).

The boys then head to The Warrior’s Rest, where they find that a new, cheery employee works there. They go to talk to the regular proprieter, who suddenly catches wind of the Hunt’s release, and gives the party a super duper dose of Expeditious Retreat, and sends them in the direction of Doovin. The boys bust ass to get to Doovin’s just beating the Horned King out once they arrive on Doovin’s farm. After sleeping the night, Doovin listens to the party’s story (a three hour affair via Floyd), then offers to let the boys store the Harvester’s Scythe there in his magic tool shed, though he recommends that they not store the Shiva Sword there (Doovin is able to draw the sword without it killing the bejesus out of him). He also shows them that he is the protector of the body of the Proclaimer, whose corpse remains fresh despite being dead for a very, very long time. The irony comes to light that Doovin is unable to go to heaven despite being one of its greatest mortal champions. While they are with Doovin, they learn the following:

The Shiva Sword has the power to undo creation (we already kind of knew this)
Nothing evil is able to enter Doovin’s property
The Harvester must undergo a one-month preparation for the Harvest
The “Tallyman” is not death itself, but an aspect of death
There are people born 100 years ago in the year of the Ram, and likely from years before
There are 12 members of the current Year of the Ram class, and though some have been slain, they may be alive again
Toth is a pagan god; using the eye’s powers takes pieces of your soul as collateral
Doogal is planning on marching on Compassgate in two weeks

Doovin offers the party the services of some flying white horses for six days. Guy and Floyd go to make peace with the human village that wiped out Yish, only to find citizens of that village racist / speciesist beyond reason. Guy and Floyd pay for the release of their only prisoner, Bricka, who harbors no ill feelings towards the boys, knowing that the conflict was to be inevitable. He tells them that the survivors of Yish joined / formed new villages, and he is no longer a chief, and that he will now wander the land as a journeyman for hire. Guy and Floyd offer him a position with them defending Compassgate, give him some starting cash, and part ways.

They join the rest of the party en route to Malus’ only to discover that the place has been untended for a few weeks, and that Abel is murdered and on the property. No sign of Malus anywhere leaves the party worried. They head for Compassgate, and the horses depart them in time to settle down for the night at the monastery.
